The Technical Writer will be responsible for end-to-end documentation of Matrix's business-created tools and applications. The person filling this role will need to conduct interviews with both users and tool designers, and also possess the technical prowess to work backwards from tool completion to development in order to create operating instructions, how-to manuals, troubleshooting guides, and frequently asked questions pages. Operating independently, the Technical Writer will develop a standard format for documentation of business developed applications as well as a format for documentation of operational processes that exist solely on paper checklists or within user tribal knowledge. This position requires technical expertise, project management skills and the ability to translate complex technical information for non-technical audiences.

  • Lead meetings with end-users and business tool designers to gather intended uses and study technical architecture
  • Author documentation of business tools for technical and non-technical audiences including operating instructions, how-to manuals, troubleshooting guides and and frequently asked questions.
  • Gather usability feedback from internal users and translate any additional requirements from a technical perspective to the business tool designers
  • Transcribe requirements for IT to productionalize business-created tools to arm the business with robust solutions that are not person-dependent
  • Other duties as assigned


Educational Requirements:


Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Technology or other related field preferred


Required Skills and Abilities:

  • 5+ years SQL/T-SQL experience including writing stored procedures.
  • Solid DB skills, data warehouse, and data mining expertise desired.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, (including Access and Excel). Including Access database development.
  • VBA programming for MS Office including experience in process improvement and custom tool development.
  • Experience gathering user requirements and implementing custom solutions/reports to meet those requirements
  • Knowledge of best practices for software development life cycle; including coding standards, code reviews,  source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to multitask, set priorities and meet deadlines in a changing environment.
  • Ability to establish trust and credibility at all levels of an organization
  • Proven ability to apply process acumen to process improvement projects, with measurable business performance improvement outcomes, independently and successfully
  • Must be able to take complex, technical information and translate it for colleagues and consumers who have nontechnical backgrounds.

Supervisory Responsibility: No supervisory responsibilities.


Travel Requirements: No travel required.


Work Conditions: General office environment.
